TK’EMLUPS – On Saturday (June 21), it’s National Indigenous Peoples Day and Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc is hosting what it calls a day of culture, community, and celebration at the Tk’emlúps Powwow Arbour.

“This Saturday, we’re asking everyone to come out and join us for National Indigenous Peoples Day. We’re going to be celebrating and honouring who we are and bringing people together, said Kúkpi7 Rosanne Casimir, of Tk’emlups te Secwepemc.

“It’s a good way to come learn and be educated but also to participate in a full schedule of events that are going to be taking place,

This weekend’s event – which is free and runs between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – will allow people to experience and learn about indigenous culture and enjoy the festivities of the day.

“It’s really important that people come out,” Casimir said. “Listen to the Hills Drum Group, they’re going to be performing. They’re going to be showcasing many different dancers, but reflecting on what they mean within the powwow world, knowing that they’re going to be here in the sacred circle, here at the Arbour and sharing that with so many people.”

“We are also going to have from the Métis Society some jiggers that are going to be doing an excellent performance,” said Casimir.

The event will also include artisanal vendors as well as activities for the kids like face painting, bouncy castles, and a magician.
