KAMLOOPS — Kamloops City Hall is back open Friday (June 20) after it was forced to close Thursday due to a blocked sewer line.

“We had a blockage in the sewer line inside the building which caused a pipe break,” Deputy CAO Jen Fretz, who is also the city’s civic operations director, told CFJC Today in a statement.

“Damage seems to be isolated to one area.”

At this time, it’s not clear what caused the blockage and what the extent of the damage at City Hall is, or how expensive it was to fix. The city said “thanks to speedy repair work” the facility at 7 West Victoria Street reopened Friday with regular hours (8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

“Crews worked through the night to restore everything and City Hall opened as usual this morning,” Fretz added.

In announcing the closure Thursday, the City also said people who are looking to pay property taxes in person could do so at the Tournament Capital Centre between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays.

Property tax payments can also be made at City Hall, which be open with extended hours between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. between June 23 and June 27 as well as on June 30 and July 2, which is when taxes are due.

Other payment options can be found here.
