KAMLOOPS — RCMP say a man was taken to Royal Inland Hospital with serious injuries after he was found suffering from a gunshot wound in downtown Kamloops early Thursday (June 19) morning.

In a news release, RCMP say multiple officers and the police dog team responded to the 600-block of Seymour Street just after midnight. They say the victim was taken to hospital but the extent of his injuries is not known at this time.

While police did not say where they were called, a picture sent to CFJC Today shows a large police presence in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven at Sixth Avenue and Victoria Street. At least two ambulances can also be seen in the picture.

Police did not say as well where the shooting is believed to have occurred.

“Although the investigation is ongoing, current evidence suggests this incident was not random,” Kamloops RCMP Staff Sgt. Kelly Butler said in a statement.

In their statement, police say several specialized teams including the Serious Crime Unit, the General Investigation Support Team and the Kamloops RCMP Forensic Identification Section are all investigating the incident.

People who witnessed the incident or those with information or video of it are being asked to call the Kamloops RCMP detachment and 250-828-3000 and reference file 2025-19221.
