TNRD to host free chipping day events in four Kamloops-area communities

KAMLOOPS — The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) will be hosting free chipping day events in four rural communities in the Kamloops-area over the next two weeks.

In a statement, the TNRD said these events give people a chance to take proactive steps to mitigate the risks from wildfire by reducing fuels – like brush, branches, deadfall, and trimmings – from around their homes.

A free chipping day event will be held in Lac Le Jeune Monday (June 16), and in Rivershore Estates Tuesday (June 17). Events will also be held in Upper Clearwater this Sunday (June 22) and Paul Lake on Monday (June 23) next week.

“Residents are asked to place debris at the end of their driveway the night before pickup,” the TNRD said in its statement.

“For easy pickup, residents should stack wood and have butt ends facing the road. Brush must be clean and free of dirt and rocks, and woody debris must be no larger than approximately five inches in diameter.”

These chipping day events are funded through the TNRD’s FireSmart program, which in turn is funded by grants. Community groups interested in hosting a chipping day event are being told to contact the TNRD’s FireSmart staff by phone at 250-377-6326 or by email.

“Throughout 2025, TNRD FireSmart staff are continuing to offer free home assessments, host or attend community events, host free chipping days, and make education materials available to support residents doing fire mitigation work at home,” the TNRD added.
