KAMLOOPS — The Supporting Team Excellence with Patients Society (STEPS) is working on plans to establish a new clinic in the Cooper Centre building on the north shore of Kamloops.

At this time, it’s not clear how many physicians or other healthcare workers will be based out of the STEPS Community Health Centre – North Shore, which will be located at 780 Windsor Avenue.

It’s also not clear when the facility will be open or how many hours a day it will be available, though more information is expected to be released at a media event later this (June 16) afternoon.

CEO Christine Matuschewski previously told CFJC Today that STEPS was waiting for clearance from the Ministry of Health before it could share more details about its new facility. Reached for comment, the ministry confirmed that more information will be released on Tuesday (June 17) morning.

A sign on the door of the Cooper Centre building also indicates a new pharmacy will be coming to that facility.

STEPS currently operates Community Health Clinics in at Orchards Walk in Valleyview and on Nicola Avenue in Downtown Kamloops. It also operates a clinic in Sun Peaks and a Women’s and Sexual Health Clinic out of its Valleyview location.

On its website, STEPS also said its clinics are currently not accepting new patients and that people looking for a family doctor or nurse practitioner, should join the province’s Health Connect Registry.

This is a developing story and more information will be provided once it’s available.
