KAMLOOPS — If you thought it was an exceptionally hot Sunday (June 8) you would be correct as Environment Canada says new daily temperature records were set in 15 different B.C. communities.

Preliminary data from Environment Canada shows the Kamloops area hit a high of 37 C Sunday. It beat the previous high of 35.7 C set in 2023, with records going back to 1890.

Kamloops wasn’t the hot spot though as that honour went to Lytton, where the mercury topped out at 39.3 C, breaking the old daily record of 38.5 which was also set in 2023. Records in Lytton go back to 1921.

New record highs were also set in Clinton (31.6 C), Princeton (35.8 C), and Williams Lake (31.4 C). While most previous records were set in 2023, Environment Canada says Abbotsford (31 C) broke a record that dated back to 1955 while Nanaimo (31.7 C) and Pitt Meadows (32.3 C) eclipsed temperature records that dated back to 1903.
