Kamloops Fire Rescue only recommend Riverside Park beach for river swimming

KAMLOOPS – People in Kamloops are asked to be mindful while taking a dip in the rivers that flow through the Tournament Capital. Kamloops Fire Rescue (KFR) says the North and South Thompson Rivers are dangerous this time of year and only recommends swimming at Riverside Park beach.

“The North Thompson is dangerous right now. The South Thompson is as well. We’re recommending that you stay at Riverside Park. TCC or a pool are also great places to swim. Just with the high water, the currents are heavy right now, there’s more debris and the water is murky,” said Josh Cowen, a fire inspector at KFR.

KFR has asked if someone is seen in the river and it looks like their life is in danger, to call 911 before attempting any self-rescue.
