WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — RCMP say they seized suspected drugs, firearms, illegal cigarettes and cash from a house in Williams Lake Thursday (June 5) in a bust that also led to the arrest of two people.

Police say the Cariboo-Chilcotin Crime Reduction Unit (CC-CRU) along with officers from the Williams Lake detachment executed a search warrant at a house on Smith Street.

“The CC-CRU was deployed in Williams Lake to assist with criminal enforcement actions in local crime,” a statement from the RCMP said. “During proactive enforcement [the day before], police observed a vehicle whose occupants appeared to be actively trafficking in drugs.”

“As a result of police investigative actions evidence was obtained to support drug trafficking at a residence on Smith Street in the city.”

Police say a search of the house led to the discovery of cocaine, magic mushrooms, fentanyl, methamphetamine, different types of pills, as well as several cartons of suspected illegal cigarettes. They also say they found firearms, ammunition, approximately $5,000 in cash and “other items related to the drug trafficking.”

They note an adult man was arrested in the house and that a second person, who was believed to also be a resident, arrived while police were on scene. Police say that person attempted to flee but was arrested without incident. A search of that person led to the discovery of suspected cocaine in a sealed package, police said.

“We are committed to proactive, targeted enforcement of the illegal drug trade in our city with public safety being our top priority,” said Insp. Rob Lake, the Officer-in-Charge of the Williams Lake RCMP Detachment.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and no further information is available at this time. They do note, though, that more details may be released as it becomes available.
