With spike in drug deaths not abating, IH extends overdose alert for Williams Lake

WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Interior Health has opted to extend an overdose alert put in place last month for Williams Lake.
The alert was distributed on May 23, with health officials saying an increase in drug overdose events and overdose deaths had been recorded.
IH initially intended to remove the alert after one week. Wednesday (June 4), however, the health authority announced the alert will remain in place until at least June 12.
In making the announcement, IH says the increase in overdose deaths has been sustained despite the earlier warning.
