MERRITT, B.C. — The BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit (SED MCU) says the body of a man reported missing from Merritt two years ago was recovered in April.

SED MCU is conducting a suspicious death investigation into the passing of Miguel Mack, who went missing in 2023.

Mack’s family announced in a social media post Monday (June 2) that he had been found deceased.

Police say in April 2025, investigators learned through the B.C. Coroners Service that Mack’s remains had been found and identified, following help from the public.

While police say there was a large-scale search of Merritt and the Nicola Valley area that used police dog services, air services, forensic identification specialists, drones and volunteers, a location of where Mack’s remains were found was not provided in a news release issued Wednesday (June 4).

“There are people out there with direct and indirect knowledge of Miguel Mack’s death and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police,” S/Sgt. Jason Smart, Unit Commander for the BC RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit stated.

Mack was 24 years old at the time he went missing on Feb. 27, 2023. In an update one year later, the Southeast District Major Crime Unit unveiled its investigation determined the disappearance of Mack was due to foul play, and he was the victim of a homicide.

Anyone with information about the death and disappearance of Miguel Mack is asked to contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit information line at 1-877-987-8477.
