SURREY, B.C. — Another heartbreaking weekend on the road for Kamloops United Football Club (KUFC) as they took on Surrey-based Unity FC in League1 BC action Saturday (May 31) evening.

The KUFC men allowed a late winner in a 4-3 loss to Unity at the Cloverdale Athletic Park for their third defeat in a row.

While Kamloops trailed 3-0 at halftime, they scored three unanswered – courtesy a pair from Sean Freeman and a penalty from Javier Sagaste – to find a way back into the game just past the hour mark.

But Naseeb Bains scored an 84th winner for Unity, which also got a pair of goals from Victory Shumbusho and an own goal from Freeman.

The loss drops the KUFC men to fourth in the table with 13 points from eight games, six points behind leaders TSS.

In women’s action, Kamloops United was on the wrong end of a 9-3 demolition by Unity, after they trailed 5-2 at half time.

Norah Bell, Taylor Miller, and Cara Freeman scored for Kamloops, while Unity had six different goal scorers – seven if you count the own goal by Cassandra De Amaral.

Kamloops remains in the basement on the League1 BC women’s standings with three points from eight games.

Next up for Kamloops United is a pair of home matches this Saturday (June 7) against the Vancouver Whitecaps/Rise academy teams at Hillside Stadium. The women play at 3:00 p.m. while the men will play at 5:30 p.m.
