VICTORIA — British Columbians can now have their say into how the province allocates money in the 2026 budget.

The Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services opened consultations on Friday (May 30). The committee, with features government and opposition MLAs, is tasked with holding annual consultations on the provincial budget, and to make recommendation based on the input.

“The annual provincial budget consultation is an outstanding opportunity for British Columbians to share the issues and priorities that are important to them,” Paul Choi, the NDP MLA for Burnaby South-Metrotown and committee chair, said in a statement.

“The input we receive is extremely valuable for the committee as it determines recommendations for the next provincial budget.”

People can provide written input online until Friday, June 20. Public hearings for people who previously registered will begin on Monday, June 2, with a presentation of the Budget 2026 consultation paper by the Minister of Finance, Brenda Bailey.

“This is your chance to suggest how public funds could be invested in your community and across British Columbia,” Elenore Sturko, the BC Conservative MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale and deputy committee chair, added.

“Our committee welcomes input from individuals, organizations and communities in every region of the province. We want to hear from you.”

The committee will then release a report that includes recommendations for the next provincial budget in August this year. The budget itself is expected to be tabled in the spring.

People who want more information about the consultation, are being asked to contact the Parliamentary Committees Office by email or by phone at 250-356-2933 or toll free at 1-877-428-8337.
