KAMLOOPS – On Sunday, (June 1), citizens of Kamloops are invited to the Kidney Walk at McDonald Park. Taking place across Canada, the event is looking to help support families and people in need by raising money to get them access to important care.

The walk’s goal is to spread awareness and promote kidney donation to those in need.

“The goal in Kamloops is $50,000. Every city has its own goal. Collectively, we’re hoping to raise over $300,000 on Sunday in B.C. alone,” Ramya Hosak, the Director of Development and Strategic Partnerships at the Kidney Foundation of Canada, said.

“That money goes toward kidney health research as well as patient services and programs for patients right here in B.C.”

One in every ten Canadians will go through kidney failure in their lifetime, and Hosak says the event also aims to show people of all ages they are not alone and that they shouldn’t be ashamed if they’re dealing with kidney disease.

Donations can be made on the website and the walk starts at 11:00 a.m.

“A pancake breakfast will start the day at 10:00 a.m. There’s a selfie station. There’s a kids’ booth, pet-friendly,” Hosak added. “It’ll be a really great way for the community to come out, have a good time and raise awareness and funds as well.”
