KAMLOOPS — A pair of football players from Kamloops will once again be playing in the Canadian Junior Football League (CJFL) after they were released by the BC Lions.

While Colton Meikle and Jacob Bond made it to the end of this year’s training camp which wrapped up Thursday (May 29), they couldn’t crack the final roster for the 2025 CFL season.

Instead, the 20-year-old Meikle will play for the Kamloops Broncos while the 22-year-old Bond will report to the Okanagan Sun.

Both Meikle and Bond saw game action in the Lions’ pre-season loss to Calgary on Victoria Day Monday. Meikle took the field on more than 10 special teams plays, while Bond was trending toward a similar number of reps before an injury cut his game short.

While this was Meikle’s second camp with the Lions, Bond was making his debut.

The Lions say there will be several more cuts made after Friday’s (May 30) pre-season game Friday (May 30) at BC Place.

The Lions will play their home and season opener on Saturday (June 7) also against the Elks. That game will feature a Snoop Dogg concert at 5:45 p.m. ahead of the 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
