WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — A man has been charged in the death of a seven-week-old infant near Williams Lake.

Williams Lake RCMP say the BC Prosecution Service approved second degree murder charges against Russel Solomon on Friday (May 23).

The charge stems from Dec. 8, 2023, when Williams Lake RCMP responded to a local hospital where a man attended with the dead infant. Additionally, police attended their home where another child was suffering from trauma. In the original news release, RCMP say the second child was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

In an update issued Monday (May 26), RCMP say there were signs of trauma on the dead infant. Soloman has also been charged with assault causing bodily harm in relation to the second child’s injuries.

Police say Solomon remains in custody. According to B.C.’s Court Services Online, a publication ban was ordered on May 24 as Soloman is undergoing a bail hearing process in Williams Lake Law Courts, with his next appearance scheduled for June 5.

In December 2023, police said a 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman were arrested but later released. Police said it appeared to be an isolated incident, and there was no risk to the public.

No further details were provided, but Williams Lake RCMP say more information may be released as it becomes available.
