Alzheimer’s Society of BC fundraising walk returns Sunday

KAMLOOPS — The IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s is set to return to the Tournament Capital Centre this Sunday (May 25), raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.

The event is the organization’s largest fundraiser and donations are used to pay for programs and services for families impacted by dementia, and fund research into the disease.

“Every dollar raised and every step taken helps build a better future for those affected by Alzheimer’s,” says Michael Penny, a programming coordinator with the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.

Registration opens at 9:00 a.m. Sunday from the indoor track at the Tournament Capital Centre, with the event starting at 10:00 a.m. People can participate in person or make a donation online in support of Kamloops walk teams.

“It’s a growing issue demographically. There are more than 85,000 people in B.C. living with dementia right now,” said Penny. “More than 50,000 care partners doing hundreds of thousands of hours of unpaid labour every year and they need a lot of support, and that’s what our organization is for.”
