SALMON ARM, B.C. — A power pole was damaged near a gas station after an ATM was stolen in Salmon Arm.

RCMP say they responded to a break-in near 10th Street SW and the Trans Canada Highway shortly after 4:00 a.m. Monday (May 19) where a vehicle used a chain to pull the ATM out of the gas station, extensively damaging the building.

Police suspect the chain ripped out the power pole after getting caught on it, knocking out power for several businesses and residents in the area for several hours.

In a news release, RCMP says parts of the ATM were found by police nearby. A stolen unoccupied vehicle suspected to be involved was also recovered later that morning near Yankee Flats.
