KAMLOOPS — There were several firsts for Kamloops United (KUFC) in League1 BC action Saturday (May 17) evening at McArthur Island as the two teams faced Burnaby as part of the Slurpee Cup weekend.

The KUFC women scored two goals in the first 30 minutes and then held on for a 3-2 win to pick up their first points of the season in a rain-delayed game that was suspended for about an hour because of lightning.

Raiya Rumo, Norah Bell, and Taylor Miller scored for Kamloops, while Burnaby got goals from Dariella Lopez and a late penalty from Kirsten Koellmell, which made things interesting, though this time, KUFC was able to hold on for the win.

Kamloops has three points from six games and is in ninth place in the standings. While Burnaby also has three points, they’ve played five games and have a goal difference of -6 to Kamloops’ -11.

As for the KUFC men, they were beaten 1-0 by Burnaby for their first defeat of the season.

Emile Saimovici scored the only goal of the game in the 24th minute, which ended Logan Pierce’s clean sheet streak at 367 minutes. The Kamloops United goalkeeper had not allowed a goal since the 17th minute in the April 20th win over Evolution FC.

Kamloops is now second in the standings with 13 points, tied with the TSS Rovers. While both teams have four wins, one draw, and one loss this season, TSS has a goal difference of 12 to Kamloops’ seven.

Both Kamloops teams will head back on the road next weekend to play the Rovers at Swanguard Stadium in Burnaby.

Kamloops’ next home game is scheduled for June 7 when Vancouver comes to town.
