Candidates announced for Cariboo Chilcotin School District byelection

After administrative mishaps forced a cancellation the first time, a School District 27’s (SD 27) board of education trustee byelection is again underway.

With general voting set to take place on June 7, three of the four original candidates who put their names forward will again have their names on the ballot.

These are Melissa Coates, Connor Ikoma and Neal Matoga.

The byelection was triggered after Ciel Patenaude resigned from her role as trustee for Area 4 in November 2024.

No new faces are running for the position which will have the elected trustee represent the school district’s Area 4, falling within the Cariboo Regional District’s Area F, and part of D.

General voting will take place on Saturday, June 7 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at 150 Mile Elementary School, located at 3081 Highway 97, 150 Mile House.

There will also be opportunities for advance and special voting.

Advance voting will take place from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28 at the district’s office, 250 North 2nd Avenue in Williams Lake and on June 4 at the Likely Elementary School, located at 6163 Keithley Creek Road.

Special voting will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 29 at the Williams Lake First Nation offices, 2561 Quigli Drive.

Special voting will also run from noon to 6 p.m. on June 5 at the Horesfly Elementary Junior Secondary School, 3045 Boswell Street, and on June 6 at the Big Lake Community Hall, 4056 Lakeview Road, Big Lake Ranch.
