KAMLOOPS — Kamloops nearly caught up to last year’s pace for new housing units in April.

New numbers released by the City of Kamloops Building Inspection Division show permits for 72 residential units were issued in April 2025 compared to 22 in the same month last year. Year-to-date, permits for 104 new housing units were issued in Kamloops, down from 136 as of April 2024.

Construction value and permits issued in the Kamloops building sector in April 2025 are nearly identical to the same month in 2024, minus two anomalies.

Nearly $18.4 million in permit activity was recorded in April 2025 — drastically down from the near $61.2 million in the same month last year.

However, two institutional permits worth $42.1 million were recorded in April 2024. Otherwise, the report was nearly identical.

Outside of the two institutional permits, the city recorded $2.4 million in value in eight commercial permits in April 2024. This year, the month of April saw nine commercial permits issued worth $2.6 million.

The residential section was also similar year-over-year. Nearly $14.6 million in value was recorded from 42 permits in April 2025 compared to $14.2 million from 32 permits during the same month last year.

As of April 2025, 303 permits have been issued for an overall construction value of $65.9 million, nearly half of the $110.1 million from 296 permits as of April 2024.

The Kamloops construction sector had its third-busiest year in 2024 with $349.8 million in permits issued.
