City of Kamloops says Pacific Way highway exit to reopen Friday

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops says the Pacific Way (Exit 367) off-ramp is scheduled to re-open by 12:00 p.m. Friday (May 16), ending a two-month long closure due to construction.

Crews began work to add a second left turn lane on March 14 of this year, and they’re still expected to complete all of the work by June 30 this year.

While the Pacific Way highway exit was supposed to reopen to traffic at the end of April, the City extended the closure to the middle of May “to allow work at this ramp to be completed.”

While traffic will now be able to pass through the area just in time for the May long weekend, the City says there will still be intermittent partial road closures and periods of congestion at Exit 367, until the project is complete.

The $3.4 million project was identified as a necessary change for growing traffic volumes back in 2015, after the former Lake City Casino on Victoria Street moved to the current Cascades Casino location on Versatile Drive.

The City says the second left turn lane would make the intersection safer as it would reduce traffic backups that extend onto the highway during peak travel times.

While the work was initially scheduled for last year, it was pushed back as City staff said they needed to refine the design of the project prior to construction.
