UPDATE (10:30 a.m.): In an email to parents, School District 73 Superintendent Rhonda Nixon says KFR has advised the district to keep staff and students indoors until the end of the day.

“Schools will be keeping everyone inside throughout the day and any students on outdoor field trips will be redirected to an inside facility. Any field trips destined for McQueen Lake or Isobel Lake are safe to continue,” Nixon writes.

It’s due to poor air quality in Kamloops following Wednesday morning’s fire at Mission Flats Landfill.

Additionally, the city is asking residents are asked to avoid any areas affected by smoke, and those living within the area encouraged to shelter in place with windows and doors closed.
