KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education approved new catchment areas Monday (May 12) to go along with the addition of Sníne Elementary School in Pineview Valley.

As of Sept. 1, 2026, elementary-aged students in the Pineview and Lower Aberdeen neighbourhoods in Kamloops, along with the communities of Cherry Creek, Lac Le Jeune and Tobiano, will move to the new Sníne school. Additionally, elementary students in a portion of Upper Sahali will move from Summit Elementary to McGowan Park Elementary.

Some high school students are also affected by the upcoming changes. Secondary-aged students in Lower Aberdeen will move from South Kamloops Secondary (South Kam) to Sa-Hali, while those in Cherry Creek, Lac Le Jeune and Tobiano will move from South Kam to Sa-Hali.

The changes approved during Monday’s (May 12) regular board meeting come after months of talks with local stakeholders.

At the Regular Public Board Meeting on May 12, 2025, the Kamloops-Thompson Board of Education approved the Sníne Elementary School catchment changes based on the Future Growth Planning Committe’s recommendations.

In a news release, SD73 says there has been a need to alleviate space pressures in southwest Kamloops elementary schools for over five years.

The new 453-seat, $65 million Sníne Elementary School in Pineview Valley is expected to open in the fall of 2026.
