VANCOUVER — It’s back-to-back-to-back clean sheets for the Kamloops United (KUFC) men’s team in League1 BC action, as they beat the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy Team 1-0 Saturday (May 10) afternoon.

Dylan Hooper scored the only goal of the game in the 21st minute for Kamloops, who are still unbeaten and remain on top of the standings with four wins and 13 points from five games.

“The team is feeling confident going into this weekend’s game,” Hooper said ahead of the game. “We’re really starting to come together as a squad. I’m excited to see what this group can accomplish together.”

Logan Pierce has been stellar in net for Kamloops. The Campbell River native, who plays for the UNBC Timberwolves, has not allowed a goal in 343 minutes of action going back to the April 20 win over Evolution FC.

In women’s action, Kamloops United is still searching for their first points of the season.

They allowed four goals in the first half en route to a 5-0 loss to the Vancouver Rise Academy Team at Thunderbird Stadium. The Rise got goals from Jade Mitchell, Lacey Kindel, Zahra Bains, and a pair from Quinn Johnson to pick up their third win of the year.

Kamloops remains at the bottom on the standings though head coach Haley Bartram says she sees potential in the group.

“Every match is a step forward,” she is quoted as saying. “The chemistry is building and we are creating something special, one game at a time.”

Next up for Kamloops is a home game against Burnaby this Saturday, May 17, during the annual Slurpee Cup weekend. The women will play at 3:00 p.m. followed by the men at 5:30 p.m.
