KAMLOOPS — Jaylah Bottle and Team B.C. had to settle for a silver medal at the 2025 National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Kamloops.

This after B.C. was beaten 2-0 by Manitoba in Saturday’s (May 10) gold medal game at Sandman Centre, though this is their best ever finish at this tournament.

“I definitely think that B.C. all together had a really good week, although we didn’t get the outcome that we wanted,” Bottle told CFJC Sports. “We had a really strong group. We were hard working, but we got unlucky and came up short in the end.”

Braya Kapusta and Keandra Broughton had the goals for Manitoba, while Isabelle Labossiere picked up the shutout.

“It was back and forth,” Bottle said of the game. “We started off a bit flat and we had chances, but we couldn’t capitalize on them. That is the one thing that Manitoba could.”

This was Bottle’s third medal at this tournament after bronze medal finishes in 2022 and 2024. The 17-year-old defender tallied two assists in seven games in her final year of eligibility at the under-18 tournament.

“It was really great because a lot of people in my community have never watched me play so them getting the opportunity to in Kamloops, my hometown, was really awesome,” Bottle said. “I saw a lot of familiar faces in the stands so that was encouraging.”

Team Manitoba completed the double in Kamloops as they beat Alberta 4-2 to win the men’s gold medal as well.

In both divisions, it was Saskatchewan that knocked off Ontario to win the bronze. The Saskatchewan women beat Ontario 4-2, while the men beat Ontario 6-4.

“It was a great tournament,” Bottle added. “I love what the committee did with the opening and closing ceremonies and with helping every team out.”

“The community feel was really awesome with all the fans who came out to watch the games. It was just a great experience and a really good way to end off my final year.”
