KAMLOOPS — Kamloops RCMP are asking people to be on the lookout for people starting fires in garbage cans and dumpsters after a series of small blazes this weekend.

Police say around 12:45 a.m. Monday (May 5), they were told about multiple garbage can fires on the 300-block of Seymour Street and 500-block of Victoria Street downtown.

Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said police scoured the area looking for suspects while Kamloops Fire Rescue crews dealt with the flames.

“A person of interest was allegedly observed in the area, described as a Caucasian man who had long hair with red highlights, was wearing dark clothing, and holding a pair of ski boots,” Evelyn said. “Officers would like to speak with the person and are hoping they will come forward or be identified by a member of the public.”
