Fraud suspect targeting e-bikes and e-scooters in e-Transfer scam near Salmon Arm
SALMON ARM, B.C. — Salmon Arm RCMP are warning the public to be cautious when buying and selling items on online marketplaces after several reports of a fraudster scamming local sellers.
In a news release issued Sunday (May 4), RCMP say the fraud suspect, a 40-year-old white man, has been targeting e-bikes and e-scooters to purchase. Police say he’s been meeting sellers in Canoe and near 50A Street NE in Salmon Arm and claims to have sent e-Transfers to them.
However, RCMP say the sellers are unable to receive the e-Transfer because the suspect cancelled it after they have left with the item.
“Salmon Arm RCMP continue to discourage the public from sending or receiving e-Transfers from people you do not know, unless it is money you are willing to lose,” Cst. Andrew Hodges states.
