NANAIMO, B.C. — There was more heartbreak for the Kamloops United (KUFC) women’s team as another stoppage time goal prevented them from picking up their first points of the League1 BC season Sunday (May 4) morning.

Goals from Cara Freeman and Norah Bell had KUFC up 2-0 just past the hour mark, but they conceded three en route to a 3-2 defeat to Nanaimo United. Avery Henderson scored twice, while Bronte Fitzsimmons added the late winner to give Nanaimo its first win of the season.

Kamloops also played the final 41 minutes with 10 players after Raiya Rumo was sent off in the 49th minute.

They’re the only League1 BC women’s team still without a point or a win this season.

Over in men’s action, it was another strong showing from Kamloops as they beat Nanaimo 4-0 for their third win of the season. It was the second clean sheet in a row for goalkeeper Logan Pierce, who hasn’t been beaten in 253 minutes of action.

KUFC got two goals from Ben Finley and one each from Lucas Kirnon and Riad Jaha as they moved to the top of the table with 10 points from four games. Kamloops is also one of two unbeaten men’s teams, joining Burnaby FC who play Altitude FC later Sunday.

Sunday also marked the first leg of the Reid Davidson Charity Shield – a total points competition between Kamloops and Nanaimo. It is named in honour of Reid Davidson, who played soccer in both communities.

Next up for Kamloops is an away game against Vancouver at Thunderbird Stadium on Saturday (May 10). The women will play the Vancouver Rise FC Academy team at 3:00 p.m. while the men will play the Vancouver Whitecaps Team at 5:30 p.m.

Their next home game is scheduled for May 17 at McArthur Island against Burnaby..
