COLLINS: He is crass, he is a liar — and yet the world bows at his feet
IS DONALD TRUMP’S PLAN working? You might be right if you said “yes” to that question.
When Trump came to power just over 100 days ago, he signed so many executive orders, twisting the global economy so out of shape it could take decades to recover. He played tariff war with countries who started off rough and tough, talking about standing up to the big jerk in Washington. And it was a great opportunity to lessen the American influence.
But then phase two of Trump’s plan was unveiled. It involved working through great stress. Even in America people were upset at Trump. But Trump was unbowed. He came out and said Americans will be hurt for a short time. How long will that hurt last? Nothing definite so far, but earlier this week, in the ignorant way he always looks like the pompous ass he is, he simply said kids may not get as many presents this year.
One final note — Trump is more uncanny than we may think. You see, he has people all upset, but none of them want to stand up to him. Big business is answering his threats by returning to the U.S., which is exactly what Trump wanted in the first place. The next phase involves inviting all these world leaders to Washington or Mar-a-Lago, at which time he will strongarm them into making deals that will be much more beneficial to America than to the country he is dealing with. So he wins. And the opportunity we had to lessen our dependence on the red, white and blue will have been lost for decades.
