Kamloops seeking feedback on proposed updates to Active Transportation Plan

KAMLOOPS — The City of Kamloops is seeking feedback on a slate of proposed updates to the Active Transportation portion of the Transportation Master Plan.

Residents will be able to have their say at an engagement session on May 13 at the Sandman Centre, as the City looks for feedback on things like connectivity, accessibility, and safety. It will be held at the Kia Lounge between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

“The purpose of this engagement session is for residents to provide feedback on the active transportation portion of the Transportation Master Plan and learn about upcoming projects and other long-term projects planned for the community,” a statement from the City of Kamloops said.

In that statement, the City said the Active Transportation Plan, which is supported by the Vision Zero strategy, is a high-level document that supports and promotes traditional non-motorized forms of transportation like walking and cycling as well as other emerging modes like e-scooters.

“Neighbourhood maps highlighting proposed project corridors will be available for review [at the engagement session], and residents will be asked to provide input and ask questions of the City’s Transportation team,” the city said.

People can also have their say online between May 12 and May 26.

“Once approved by Council, the Active Transportation Plan will form a basis for undertaking priority projects identified in the next few years and suitable long-term active transportation projects in the coming decades while outlining a planning framework that allows for periodic updates,” the City statement said.

As well, the Kamloops bike valet, which was successfully piloted last summer, will be returning this month. It will be operational seven days a week at Sandman Centre between May 7 and Aug 31, and on Saturdays at the Kamloops Farmer’s Market on St. Paul Street.
