LILLOOET, B.C. — Lillooet and area residents are in the middle of navigating yet another emergency room closure, the twentieth of this year.

Interior Health says the ER at the Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre will be closed until 8:00 a.m. Friday (May 2) morning. The 37-hour closure began at 7 p.m. Wednesday night.

People in need of emergency care are being told to make the two hour trip to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, as has been the case during all previous ER closures in Lillooet.

This is the second ER closure since Monday and the fourth in the past week and a half alone.

Assuming it reopens as scheduled on Friday morning, the Lillooet ER will have been closed for 570 hours this year. Or in other words, the ER, which is supposed to be open 24/7, has been unavailable for 19.5 per cent of the year.

As has been the case during past emergency room closures in Lillooet and elsewhere, Interior Health said people should call 9-1-1 if they need emergency care, or HealthLink BC at 8-1-1 if they aren’t sure if they need to head to the emergency room.
