KAMLOOPS – On Monday (April 28th), the SD73 budget was passed despite the criticism the district received from various groups.

Among the concerned groups is the District Parent Advisory Council (DPAC), who is disappointed with the message the budget cuts are sending to parents and students.

“We had a strong reaction from our parent members about the passing of this budget and the recommendation, along with changes that are going to happen next year within our learning plan,” said Bonnie McBride, DPAC president.

A large concern for DPAC is the effects of the budget on students outside the classroom.

“All learning doesn’t occur in the classroom. Making sure we’re keeping cuts out of classrooms is great but it will still affect kids and those programs that take place outside the classroom. To hear the district say that they know there’s going to be an impact is gratifying,” said McBride.

The group is moving forward on plans is has with other district groups to seek a meeting with the provincial education ministry.
