SUN PEAKS, B.C. — It’s shaping up to be a busy summer at Sun Peaks Resort, featuring a “dynamic range” of music, motorsports, arts, and lifestyle events.

Tourism Sun Peaks has released its lineup for the Sun Peaks Centre Stage, which will be highlighted by some big-ticket concerts in July featuring the likes of Toque on July 1 and Big Sugar, Philip Sayce, Wide Mouth Mason and 54-40 as part of Rockin’ in the Peaks.

The summer season will kick off with the Summersgiving and Solstice in Sun Peaks event on June 21 and June 22. It will include yoga, meditation and sound baths as well as a long-table style community dinner.

The second annual Sun Peaks Speed Week will be held July 18 to 20, featuring things like a luxury car showcase, a gravel race clinic, and a charity golf tournament to benefit the Canucks Autism Network.

Endless Summer scheduled for Aug. 8 to 10 will feature a weekend of “sun-drenched live music, breezy DJ sets and mountain lifestyle.” The 14th annual Retro Concert Weekend featuring live tribute bands will then take place Aug. 22 to 24.

Between Sept. 5 and 7, the Alpenglow Arts Festival will showcase local arts and culture. It will culminate with a performance by guitarist Jesse Cook.

The final Centre Stage event scheduled for this summer is Paws in the Parks Sept. 12 to 14, which will be dedicated to people and their pets.

“There’s something magical about summer in Sun Peaks with the warm mountain air combined with the energy that fills the destination,” Tourism Sun Peaks Executive Director Naomi Kerchinsky said.

“We wanted to capture that spirit and create moments that are both unforgettable and uniquely Sun Peaks.”

Kerchinsky told CFJC Today that the says the idea is to showcase Sun Peaks Resort as more than just a place where people can ski and snowboard in the winter.

“We still want to create draws for spring, summer, and fall. In winter, the resort is full but with these events, we add another layer,” she said, on CFJC Midday.

“It’s in our whole mindset of changing from being a primarily destination marketing organization into a management organization where we’re going ‘lets get people here’ but we also want to make sure people have a good time when they get here.”

Greg Albrecht, CEO of Force Four Management, says the Sun Peaks Centre, which opened in 2020, is unlike any other facility in Western Canada.

“It is Western Canada’s largest outdoor covered venue, which is very, very unique,” he added. “It is the rink in the wintertime but we take all the boards out and then we actually have a covered outdoor space, so you can watch it in rain or shine.”

The resort is set to begin its summer season on June 14, with the lifts set to start tuning at 10:00 a.m. that Saturday. The golf course is scheduled to open on May 16.

You can find a full list of summer events at Sun Peaks Resort here and a list of live music shows here.

While some of the musical shows and other events are free, you’ll be able to get tickets for the ones that aren’t starting this Thursday, May 1.
