UPDATE: Grassfire near Darfield being held at 18 hectares
CHU CHUA, B.C. — (UPDATE April 26, 7:15 a.m.): A grassfire near Darfield is currently being held after quick work from fire crews Friday (April 25) evening.
The fire grew to an estimated 18.2 hectares in size, according to the BC Wildfire Service, which says the blaze is not likely to spread beyond predetermined boundaries under current conditions.
“The fuels burning in this fire will have reacted in our favour to the cool over night temperatures,” a Saturday update from the Chu Chua Volunteer Fire Department said. “BC Wildfire Service will return today with one Initial Attack Crew. Volunteer Fire Departments are not required on site today.”
Crews were alerted to the blaze after 2:00 p.m. Friday, which was also actioned by crews from the Little Fort Fire Department.
