UPDATE: Equipment failure leads to second major Kamloops-area power outage in as many days

KAMLOOPS — (UPDATE 9:15 p.m.): BC Hydro says equipment failure is to blame for another major power outage that is impacting the southwest part of the City of Kamloops Friday (April 25) afternoon, the second in as many days.

It said crews was responding to the outage that affected 2,467 customers in the Aberdeen, Dufferin and Southgate neighbourhoods of the city and areas west towards Cherry Creek.

Power had been out since 4:46 p.m., though some residents took to social media it was restored around 6:00 p.m. In an update, BC Hydro said all power was restored by 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Power has also been restored for another 472 customers in the area of Thompson Rivers University and Hillside Drive. It’s not clear if the two Friday outages are related as BC Hydro says a cause is still under investigation.
