CHASE, B.C. — The head of the Chase RCMP detachment says a Tuesday morning (April 22) police incident led to the seizure of explosives from a house on Third Avenue.

Sgt. Stephen Newport told Chase Council that the incident, which involved the use of chemical agents, was connected to an investigation that was being done by the Kamloops RCMP.

“The Kamloops city detachment’s Targeted Enforcement Unit started an investigation earlier on in the year that culminated with them identifying a target that was here in Chase,” Newport said during the April 22 Chase council meeting.

“They executed a search warrant for firearms here in town, and the emergency response team, the ERT unit from Kelowna, our Southeast district, came to assist with that.”

Newport said the Emergency Response Team was called in owing to the “high-risk” nature of the police operation. He also says the explosive disposal unit was also called in from the Lower Mainland after a search of the house led to the discovery of explosives.

“I can’t get to too many specifics on the actual investigation itself, as it is still an active investigation, but charges are certainly going to be coming out of that one,” Newport said.

The RCMP expects to release more information early next week.
