Shuswap teenager dies in apparent hiking accident
SALMON ARM, B.C. — RCMP in the Shuswap say a teenaged boy lost his life in a hiking accident Monday (April 21).
In a news release, Staff Sgt. Simon Scott of Salmon Arm RCMP says the tragic incident happened on Bastion Mountain just before 6:00 p.m.
Scott says the 17-year-old boy was walking ahead of two friends when he disappeared near the top of a 200-foot cliff.
Investigators believe he slipped and fell. The father of one of the boy’s friends found him at the base of the cliff and he was not responsive.
