CHU CHUA, B.C. — Leadership from Simpcw and the District of Barriere are celebrating a renewed partnership.

Simpcw Kukwpi7 George Lampreau and Barriere Mayor Rob Kerslake signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and Protocol Agreement Friday (April 11) during the annual Community to Community Forum in Chu Chua.

According to a Simpcw news release, the document represents a relationship “grounded in mutual respect, understanding, openness and trust.”

“This MOU is a step toward building strong, respectful relationships, reflecting our shared commitment to working together in the spirit of cooperation and reconciliation,” said Lampreau. “It is a key moment in strengthening our bonds and advancing mutual success.”

It’s the latest in a series of MOUs initiated by Simpcw, who signed similar agreements with Valemount and the Thompson Nicola Regional District in 2024.

“This agreement is more than words on paper – it represents our shared values, our shared history, and our shared future,” added Kerslake. “By working together as governments, we can better support our communities through partnerships in economic development, infrastructure, environmental protection, cultural understanding and more.”

Simpcw says it is working to formulate another MOU with the Village of McBride.
