MERRITT, B.C. — The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) Brad Anstey of the Merritt Centennials is the league’s first ever GM of the Year.

In a news release issued Tuesday (April 8) morning, the KIJHL says the Centennial’s majority owner, president and general manager received the inaugural Wayne March GM of the Year award after he constructed an expansion team with input from head coach and assistant general manager Wes McLeod.

In their first season, the Centennials finished with a 26-13-3-2 record, good for third in the Bill Ohlhausen Division and seventh in the overall league standings. The Cents qualified for the KIJHL playoffs, falling to the Revelstoke Grizzlies in five games in the first round.

“Brad and his staff did a tremendous job building their roster within a tight timeframe and putting a hard-working, entertaining team on the ice,” Jeff Dubois, KIJHL commissioner says. “His leadership and decision-making during the Centennials’ inaugural KIJHL season has the team positioned for consistent, long-term success.”
