UPDATE: Northbound lanes on Coquihalla reopen after Thursday morning crash

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.): The northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt have reopened after the crash earlier Thursday (April 3) morning.

While drivers are being told to expect delays, it is not clear what caused the crash.

CFJC Today has reached out to emergency personnel for more information, and will update this story more information is known.

MERRITT, B.C. — (UPDATE: 10:00 a.m.): The northbound lanes of the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt are closed Thursday (April 3) morning

DriveBC first reported of the vehicle incident nearly nine kilometres south of Merritt at around 6:30 a.m. Thursday. It also said there is no estimated time when the highway may reopen.

As of 9:00 a.m., Cpl. James Grandy with the RCMP’s Southeast District said emergency crews were still at the scene at Highway 5 and Kane Valley Road,

“[We are] investigating an incident involving a motor vehicle which occurred earlier this morning,” Grandy said, in a news release. “All northbound traffic on Highway 5 from this location will remain closed until further notice.”

Another update from DriveBC is due at 10:45 a.m.

Drivers travelling from the coast to the interior are asked to use Highways 1 and 3 as alternate routes.
