KAMLOOPS — The RCMP say two men who are believed to be responsible for a number of unspecified offences in B.C. and Alberta were arrested in Kamloops Tuesday (April 1) night, and later released.

Mounties in Kamloops say they were told that a black four-door sedan, which was reported as stolen, was expected to be in the area around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. In a news release Thursday (April 3), police say that vehicle had allegedly fled from officers in other other nearby detachments.

“The quick planning and response of Kamloops RCMP frontline officers led to a successful spike belt deployment on Highway 1, but the vehicle continued on and was abandoned east of the city,” Kamloops RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Crystal Evelyn said.

“Soon after, police located a suspect lying in a ditch nearby and arrested him. The North Okanagan RCMP Dog Service Unit found a second person hiding in the grass further along, and he too was taken into custody.”

Police in Kamloops say the investigation spans a number of different units of the RCMP – including the General Investigations Support Team, Crime Reduction Unit, and frontline officers.

They also confirmed that the two men – who were not identified – have been released with conditions and court dates, with charges expected to be forthcoming.

“The exceptional work of local officers in partnership with neighbouring police detachments resulted in the successful arrest of two people,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley said.

“The investigation involves multiple jurisdictions and offences, and we anticipate making charge recommendations as part of the assessment and approval process.”
