Tobiano, Cherry Creek residents head to fire protection referendum June 21

KAMLOOPS — Tobiano and Cherry Creek residents will head to the polls on Saturday, June 21 to tell the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) whether they want to pay for a new fire protection service.

The referendum date was approved at the TNRD’s regular Board of Directors meeting Thursday (March 27).

Residents will be asked whether they approve borrowing $3 million to build and equip a new fire hall to serve the two communities.

“We have circulation of information sheets that are going out, two proposed information sessions prior to the public assent process, so I think the people in Tobiano and Cherry Creek will be well informed by the time they cast their decision on this matter,” said Area ‘J’ Director Michael Grenier at Thursday’s meeting.

The venture is projected to cost property owners $1.14 per $1,000 of assessed value.
