Merritt’s NVIT gets $19.6M new student housing project

MERRITT, B.C. — The province says a new student housing project for Nicola Valley Institute of Technology (NVIT) in Merritt will bring family units to the school for the first time.

In a news release, Post-Secondary Education Minister Anne Kang says the project will include 12 townhouses comprised of a mix of two- and three-bedroom units meant primarily for Indigenous families.

The new housing will increase the number of on-campus beds from 80 to 110.

The project will also include 36 childcare spaces and will add program spaces to train early childhood educators.

The total price tag for the project is $19.6 million. Projected opening will take place by the fall of 2027.
