Royal Inland Hospital Foundation looks for community support to house medical professionals

KAMLOOPS — The Royal Inland Hospital (RIH) Foundation is asking the community to provide livable spaces for medical practitioners as the hospital increases its recruitment drive.

“It’s one thing to have the best equipment here and these brand new spaces to work in. It’s another thing to have no staff who work in them. We understand this. We’ve kind of zoomed out and have taken a comprehensive approach to think about the longevity and sustainability of health care. That’s why recruitment and retention have become a huge priority,” said Marisa Bertoli, marketing and communications manager at the RIH Foundation.

A major goal of this social media campaign is to make potential hospital staff as comfortable as possible while they transition to a new city.

“When you come to Kamloops, if you have a limited time or don’t know the area, it can be hard. People come into such a beautiful space and we want to showcase that to people visiting here — some of whom are considering moving their families here or establishing a practice or building their career here. We do everything we can to show them all that Kamloops has to offer,” said Bertoli.

With the demand for so many medical professionals, some have come from across the world and brought their families to help take care of the Kamloops area.

“Right now, we are housing a neurologist who has traveled here from the UK with his entire family. We’ve given him a condo for free for the next six months because of the logistics of finding housing. Moving to a good area, staying close enough to the hospital, all of those things. There’s so much to think about,” said Bertoli.

If you have a space that might be available, feel free to let the RIH Foundation know the price, area of town and a brief description.
