New United Way BC campaign to support Mount Paul Community Food Centre and other regional food programs
KAMLOOPS — United Way BC has launched a food security campaign to support the Mount Paul Community Food Centre and regional community food hubs in Clearwater and Williams Lake.
The organization that helps address critical social issues in B.C. launched its Food Appeal program on Tuesday (March 25). United Way BC says donations will go toward programs like the non-profit Mount Paul Community Food Centre and food hubs in Clearwater in Williams Lake.
“Imagine having to choose between paying rent or buying food, affording a bus ride to work or walking an hour and a half before and after an eight-hour shift. For many, it means leaving young children alone to work an evening job or being unable to leave home for necessities,” Alžběta Sabová, United Way B.C. food security director says in a news release issued Tuesday. “With inflation, layoffs, rising food prices, too many people are struggling to stay afloat. Through it all, United Way BC is committed to supporting people in need.”
United Way BC says its regional community food hubs provided 5,659 meals and 684 food hampers across the Thompson-Nicola-Cariboo region.
