Henry to represent the People’s Party in Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies
KAMLOOPS — The People’s Party of Canada (PPC) secured just shy of five per cent of the vote in the last election — a marked improvement from 2019 — but still failed to win a seat in Ottawa.
In Kamloops, the party did even better, securing more than five per cent of the vote and finishing ahead of the Green Party. The People’s Party has named candidates in both ridings, with Revelstoke native Michael Henry set to fly the colours in Kamloops-Shuswap-Central Rockies.
“We get one vote and PPC is about an alternative choice to what is existing in our two terms of minority governments. I really don’t see vote splitting as an issue from where we are coming from,” said Henry. “People are attracted to our party for our platform and people who have given up on existing parties and have essentially lost their voice.”
Former Conservative MP Maxime Bernier leads a party whose supporters feel it is the correct choice for conservative-minded voters. Henry also stated that, because the party would not be whipped, if elected to serve in Ottawa, his votes would truly represent the people he serves.
