LILLOOET, B.C. — A temporary closure of the emergency department at Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre has been extended by another 24 hours.

Interior Health says emergency services in Lillooet will be unavailable until 8:00 a.m. Tuesday. The Lillooet emergency department was originally scheduled to reopen at 8:00 a.m. Monday following a 49-hour closure.

A reason for the extension was not provided in a news release issued Sunday (March 23) night. Interior Health says all other inpatient services will continue at Lillooet Hospital.

Residents in Lillooet and area in need of life-threatening emergency care are still being asked to drive nearly two hours to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops.
