KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers dropped a 1-0 decision to the Vancouver Giants in their final home game of the 2024-25 WHL season Saturday (March 21) night.

Cameron Schmidt scored the only goal of the game at 12:12 of the second period to help the playoff-bound Giants win six of eight games against the Blazers this season. Former Blazer Connor Levis picked up an assist for his final WHL point at Sandman Centre.

While the Blazers peppered Burke Hood with 30 shots, 14 of which game in the final period, they were unable to beat the 17-year-old rookie netminder, who made a number of sprawling saves to preserve his third shutout of the season.

At the other end, Logan Edmonstone was excellent as he made 20 saves on 21 shots in 40 minutes of action. The 17-year-old, who is expected to be the Blazers starting goaltender next season, stood firm as he was called into action on numerous occasions.

The Blazers then turned to veteran Dylan Ernst for the final 20 minutes. The 21-year-old stopped all five shots he faced in his final appearance at Sandman Centre.

Also playing their final WHL game at Sandman Centre were forwards Oren Shtrom and Beau Courtney. Shtrom joined the Blazers from Prince George in May last year, while Courtney arrived from Everett in January.

Ernst, Shtrom, and Courtney were named the game’s three stars as is often customary after the final home game of the season.

The Blazers will end their season in Kelowna Saturday (March 22) against the Rockets, who have also been eliminated from playoff contention. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
