LA Kings re-sign Kamloops native Joe Hicketts to two-year contract

LOS ANGELES — The LA Kings have re-signed Kamloops native Joe Hicketts to a two-year, two-way contract extension worth an average annual value (AAV) of US$775,000 through the 2026-27 season.

The 28-year-old Hicketts has three goals and 27 points in 52 games with the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate this season. Hicketts, who was named team captain in October, also has 37 penalty minutes and a plus-7 rating in 2024-25.

In his two seasons with Ontario, Hicketts has four goals and 47 points in 82 games. He has 38 goals and 244 points in 501 career AHL games split between Ontario, the Iowa Wild, and the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Hicketts also put up two goals and 18 points in 39 career AHL playoff games, and won a Calder Cup with Grand Rapids 2017.

Hicketts has also five assists in 22 NHL games with the Detroit Red Wings, though he hasn’t played in the NHL since the 2019-20 season.

Prior to turning pro, Hicketts suited up for the Victoria Royals and finished with 32 goals and 173 points in 224 games. He was named to the WHL Western Conference First All-Star Team in 2016 and the Second All-Star Team in 2015.

Hicketts also skated in 31 WHL playoff games and had a goal and 15 points.

He also won a World Juniors gold medal in 2015 and a bronze medal at the Under-18 Men’s World Championship in 2014, while playing for Team Canada.
