KAMLOOPS — A spring cleaning so nice, Kamloops is going to do it twice.

The City of Kamloops announced the second annual Clean the Beach event will take place Sunday, April 13, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Kamloops residents are once again being asked to collect litter near Overlander Park and Riverside Park, secure it in bags and place them in designated areas for city staff to remove.

In the spirit of Earth Day and to take advantage of low water levels, Kamloops council approved the large-scale community cleaning event to clean up the riverbanks in the city. About 130 residents helped clean up nearly 1,300 lbs of garbage during Clean the Beach Day in 2024.

In a news release issued Thursday (March 20), the city says pre-event beach sweeps for sharps and other harmful materials will be carried out by social agencies involved in the Clean Team supportive employment program.

From there, volunteers will arrive at the east end of Riverside Park by 11:00 a.m. on Clean the Beach Day, and receive clean-up supplies, route maps and instructions on how to safely handle glass, sharps or hazardous waste.

Residents are asked to bring closed-toed shoes, work gloves and high-visibility vests. Additionally, while it’s not required, the city is asking residents to register before 9:00 a.m. on Friday, April 11, to help plan ahead of time.

A barbecue will be held at Riverside Park following the cleanup.
